In a word or two- "Poorly acted, but good storyline - Ok"
What a great concept, a lesbian "Big Chill" of sorts, perhaps something most lesbians can relate to. The film centers on a reunion of lesbian college friends
who gather over a weekend.
Some women love this and some hate it. It comes across as low budget with low budget acting to go with it. It has such huge potential, but doesn't quite deliver to that full potential. If this movie were to be remade today, with skilled writers and actresses, it would likely become a huge success.
It is worth a rental.

In a word or two- "Quirky comedy, but no connection between the actresses"
This film won so many awards... and it makes one think that films are given awards more because they deal with lesbianism than the actual film quality itself.
Rachel a comedic New Yorker who is pining over her ex girlfriend,
Reggie decides to make a new life in California near her parents. Her PFLAG mother sets Rachel up on a blind date with the somewhat flat
Christine. All is going splendidly until Reggie comes back into the picture.
In some parts it has better acting and in other parts the acting is terrible.
Helen Lesnick is writer/actress/comedian in a Woody Allen'esk style. She is likable but something is missing. Perhaps the key that is missing in this film is the lack of chemistry between any of the actresses. You just don't buy it.
A Family Affair, like Kissing Jessica Stein, is one of them. The film is good to OK. Nothing to warrant it's awards, so don't be deceived.

In a word or two- "Sure to be a lesbian classic beautifully written with twists and turns"
This BBC film is quickly to become a lesbian classic! It is so beautifully written!
The film is based on Sarah Waters novel, who is arguably one of the greatest literary alive today. What's more importantly her novel's center around victorian lesbian heroin's, so our community is sure to love the films adapted from
Sarah Waters novels.
Fingersmith is set in victorian London, which depicts two very different lifestyles at the time. From the dark alleys of old London's seedier area's to the country castle of the rich. Sue an orphan taken in by the crude and manipulative Mrs. Sucksby is raised to be a thief. Her life is as awful as you might imagine until she is drawn into one of Mrs Sucksby's money thieving schemes with the very handsome and very gay, Mr. Ibbs. The plan involves the seduction of Maude
who is a wealthy heiress. But who seduces who?
The two main actresses have a great chemistry and the film is well acted on all ends. There are some unexpected twists and turns which really get you going.
The only thing that could have been improved upon was the tieing
everything together at the ending with a special moment.
Fingersmith is a lesbian classic.
